UCF started out in the Big 12 with a big win. Scoring 14 points in each quarter of the game, the Knights dominated their first opponent of the season. Sure it was a severely mismatched game but, none the less important for their record. UCF will have some tougher matchups, later in the season, but John Rhys Plumlee gave the fans quite an opening show.
If they can play this well throughout the season and not let the reality slip away, that this was just a fun game, this team could have a fair shot at a good first season in the XXII. On the other hand, if UCF gets full of themselves early on, they could find themselves having a tough time against Boise State which is already going to be an exponentially tougher team to beat. Boise hosts UCF on Sept. 9th at Albertsons Stadium. Clearing that hurdle will position them well to return home and face Villanova on the 16th.
Stay tuned as it's entirely possible that the first three games of this season will be quite telling.. a real testament to the hard work this team has not only done to prepare for this season but to get here and have this opportunity. Either way, it's going to be a great season for the future of this team.
